In the early 2000’s, KCC Supermarket in General Santos City was experiencing serious problems characterized by excessive crowding, long, slow queues, and a time-consuming payment process at the checkout counters.DDI conducted a time-and-motion study and discovered that most buyers were business owners whose high-volume purchases required large boxes to be packed in. This led to the implementation of roomier aisles, wider and longer conveyor belts for each checkout counter. Proximity sensors that halted boxes as they reached the cashier were also employed to help automate part of the process. This helped reduce queue times and speed up the payment process.
